Important — these are general guides only. Real seating depends on the table's leg design and placement: corner legs, wide bases or sculptural pedestals reduce the clear space between the legs, so fewer chairs may slide in — and wide or armed chairs take more edge each. Before deciding, check the product page for the table's leg placement and the clear span between legs, and measure the width of the chairs you plan to use.
The rule people miss
Leave 90–100cm of chair clearance
That's what a chair needs to slide out with a person in it. In practice, your dining space should be about 2m longer and wider than the table itself — a 180cm table wants a dining zone of roughly 3.8 × 3m.

Round vs rectangular
- Round suits square rooms and open-plan corners, has no head of the table (better conversation), no sharp corners for kids, and fits tighter spaces — browse our round dining tables.
- Rectangular seats more people per square metre, sits neatly against a wall between dinner parties, and suits long, narrow rooms — browse all dining tables.
Height & chairs: standard dining height is 75–78cm; allow roughly 20–30cm between seat and tabletop for legroom, and check armchair-style dining chairs fit under the table's apron. Materials: our tables come in natural stone and solid timber — always check the product page for each piece's exact material and finish. Stone tops are heavier than timber: keep the delivery path clear, and use felt pads under anything that sits on the surface.
